When you go on vacation, you don't want the whole world to know about it, other than a few trusted neighbors. For your home security, the optimal solution is to have some people on your block who you know and trust watch your home for you.

Before you leave for vacation there are a few other things you can do to keep any would-be burglars away.

Leave your blinds open in the same way you usually do during the day. Closed blinds during the daytime signal that you may be away.

Have your mail picked up, instead of stacking up in your mailbox or on your front porch.

Turn you phone's ringer lower in volume so it can't be heard from outside the house. The same goes for your message machine.

Stop your newspaper delivery while you're gone. Nothing says, "Hey I'm out of town," like a stack of unread newspapers on your driveway.

Use automatic timers for your lights.

Home security is important to everyone. But it's amazing how many people just do not pay attention to the small details that will deter burglars from attempting to break in to your house.
